The world of pad was created by Darren Birch and David Winterton. Having spent several years bringing rundown Victorian and Edwardian terrace houses back to life in the leafy South Manchester suburb of Chorlton, it became increasingly clear that many of the finishing touches for these projects were being bought while we were both on business trips to London, Glasgow and further afield. We soon realised that there was a gap in the market and decided to open our first shop pad-chorlton with the mission of bringing fabulous hard to find items to South Manchester.
In December 2007 (9 months after opening) The Guardian Newspaper named pad-chorlton in their "UK's Best Independent Gift Shops" listings. pad-chorlton was the only gift shop in Greater Manchester (and one of only four shops in the North West) to be included.
The Guardian said of pad-chorlton - "Although it primarily sells homeware, pad's lighting, homeware, kitchenware and other products are designed so well that they could easily be given as gifts."
Fast forward to March 2008 and pad-chorlton was named as a finalist in the Best Gift Shop Newcomer category for the North of England at the annual Gift Retailer of the Year Awards.
pad-chorlton has now been open for two years and pad webstore is a natural progression, in part driven by the many visitors to Chorlton who want to be able to shop with us without having to travel so far!
We hope you enjoy our website...
